Goggomobil Hans Glas, propriétaire de la plus grande fabrique de semoir d'Europe, fit fabriquer à partir de 1951 un scooter qu'il baptisa du surnom de son petit-fils „Goggo“. En 1955, débuta la production en série de la Goggomobil. Les gens en possession d'un ancien permis de conduire de classe 4 pouvait conduire des Véhicules produites jusqu'en 1969. d'une cylindrée maximum de 250 ccm. Un petit véhicule représentait un bon compromis entre la moto et la voiture. Les véhicules ressemblants le plus à l'automobile remportèrent un plus grand succès, c'est le cas de la Lloyd et la Goggomobil. En 1966, l'entreprise fut reprise par BMW; les Goggomobils furent encore jusqu’en 1969.

In 1955 serial production of the “Goggomobil” started. Own-ers of an old class 4 driver’s license were entitled to drive automobiles with no more than 250 ccm. A micro car was a compromise, an episode on the path from motor bike to motor car. The “Lloyd” and the “Goggomobil” survived the longest, since their respective designs very much resembled what was commonly considered a motor car. In 1966 the company was taken over by BMW; but the “Goggomobil” was produced until 1969.
