Fritz Fend, un constructeur d'avion au chômage, construit pour un mutilé de guerre, un tricycle en bois, dont la direction et la traction étaient dirigées manuellement. Par la suite il construisit le Fend-Flitzer (=le bolide Fend). Celui-ci n'avait pas de démarreur, ni de marche arrière, ni essuie-glaces à moteur – peu importait, puisqu'il roulait! Willy Messerschmitt, ancien constructeur d'avion, voulait utiliser ses hangars de production. C'est pourquoi il conçut avec Fritz Fend le scooter-cabine (Kabinenroller) que les Allemands surnommèrent le cercueil de Blanche-Neige. Le scooter-cabine remporta en Allemagne plus de succès que tout autre tricycle. Après que Messerschmitt se fut retiré de l'entreprise, pour recommencer à construire des avions, Fend s'associa à Valentin Knott. Ils conçurent et construisirent le modèle KR 201 ainsi que le „Renntiger“ (= tigre de course).

Fritz Fend, a jobless aero plane designer, at the suggestion of a war invalid, constructed a wooden tricycle, with manual steering and drive. At length he built the Fend scooter, which did not have a starter, a reverse gear, a wiper motor – no problem at all, the main thing was: it ran. Willy Messerschmitt, a former aero plane manufacturer, wanted to use his production halls to full capacity. So, together with Fritz Fend he developed the cabin scooter, by Germans nicknamed “Schneewittchensarg” (Snow White’s coffin). The cabin scooter became Germany’s most successful tricycle. When Messerschmitt left the company, because he wanted to build aero planes again, Fend joined Valentin Knott to found the company FMR (Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau (vehicle and machine constructing) Regensburg). Together they developed and built the KR 201 as well as the “Renntiger” (racing tiger).
