Lloyd, la troisième marque du groupe Borgward, produisit une des premières petites voitures à quatre places pour un prix très intéressant. La carrosserie du premier modèle était constituée d'une carcasse en bois habillée de plastique. Peu à peu, on utilisa de la tôle d'acier. Le succès de Lloyd est dû surtout aux petites voitures. Avec le temps Lloyd élargit son programme considérablement ; par exemple avec sa boîte de vitesses entièrement synchronisée, une formidable suspension et la boîte de vitesse au volant. Le modèle Arabella fit faire à Lloyd une avancée énorme. Cependant cela ne suffit pas à empêcher la faillite de Borgward en 1961.

Lloyd, the third brand in the Borgward group, produced one of the first compact cars with four seats at a very favourable price. The body of the first model consisted of a wooden framework coated with plastic material. By and by steel sheet parts were used. Lloyd has become a synonym for building successful compact cars. Keeping up with the development, Lloyd enhanced their programme significantly: a fully synchronized gearbox, excellent suspension and steering wheel gear shift. Lloyd made a great leap forward with their “Arabella”. However, it could not avert Borgward’s bankruptcy in 1961.
